Welsh began his management journey with Ossett Albion and continued after their merger with Ossett Town to form Ossett United. Welsh’s next managerial role was with Bury AFC, where he was selected from over 750 candidates. His first season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but in his second season, he guided the team to win the North West Counties Division One North title, securing 27 victories in 36 matches. Subsequently, he became the manager of Bury FC following the merger of the club’s history.
Before transitioning into management, Welsh had a notable 16-year playing career. He started at Stockport County and went on to play for several clubs, including Macclesfield Town, Sunderland in the Premier League, Leicester City, Toronto, Blackpool, Yeovil Town, Carlisle United, Scunthorpe United, FC United of Manchester, Farsley Celtic, and Ossett Albion. His diverse playing experience across different leagues and clubs added to his depth of knowledge in football, which he has successfully applied to his managerial roles.
