History

Chesterfield Football Club dates back to at least 1864, when a club by that name was established in the town.

The most widely-held view is that the club was founded in 1866, but there is no contemporary evidence to support this claim.

In 1867, Chesterfield Football Club officially formed and played their first match in February 1868.

After the club folded in 1881, another club was created in 1884 under the name of Chesterfield Town FC.

This name was later changed to Chesterfield FC in 1915, and the current club dates from April 1919, when it was formed as the Chesterfield Municipal FC.
