History

Widnes FC, founded in 2003 as The Dragons AFC and later renamed Widnes Dragons, quickly gained recognition for its grassroots football efforts in Halton. The club was the first in Halton to receive the FA Charter Standard award in 2003, followed by the FA Charter Standard Development award in 2008. In 2012, Widnes Dragons aligned with the Widnes Vikings RLFC, enhancing its community status, and received the FA Charter Standard Community Club award.

Under the guidance of manager Steve Hill from 2012, the club achieved notable league success and entered the North West Counties Football League (NWCFL) in 2013. In the 2014/15 season, Widnes made significant progress in cup competitions and also debuted in the FA Vase. Players like Connor McCarthy and Ben Tollitt advanced to higher leagues, with Tollitt becoming the first to join a Football League club.

Leadership changes followed after the 2015 season, with new appointments including Joey Dunn as manager. The 2016/17 season was marked by managerial shifts and Kevin Towey becoming the club’s record goalscorer. It concluded with Widnes winning the Hallmark Security League First Division Championship, earning promotion to the Premier Division.
