Oxford City Football Club, nicknamed “The Hoops,” is a non-league football club based in Oxford, Oxfordshire.
Established in 1970, they currently compete in the Vanarama National League, which is part of the fifth tier of English football. The team calls Marsh Lane their home ground.
At the time of writing, Ross Jenkins is the current manager.
History
Oxford City F.C., with an unclear foundation date, played its first recorded match in 1884. After a period of irregular matches, a 1896 restructure led to more consistent play. The club achieved early success, winning its first silverware, the Oxfordshire County Cup, in 1902. Notable achievements include reaching the FA Cup First Round in 1901/02 and winning the Amateur Cup in 1906.
Despite a decline in the 1950s and 1988 eviction from their ground, the club revived in the 1990s, eventually moving to Court Place Farm. Oxford City experienced managerial highlights with Bobby Moore and Harry Redknapp in the late 1970s. More recent successes include FA Cup runs and reaching the National League South, culminating in a historic promotion to the top tier of Non-League Football after the 2022/23 season.
