Biography

Micky Mellon, a seasoned football manager, joined Boundary Park on a three-year contract, bringing a notable record of achieving five promotions with three different clubs over his 15-year managerial career. Mellon’s notable achievements include leading Fleetwood Town to the National League title in 2012, after first securing their promotion to the fifth tier in 2010. His success continued with Tranmere Rovers, where he achieved back-to-back promotions, first guiding them back into the EFL in 2018 and then to League One in the following season.

Mellon’s playing career spanned 17 years, with over 500 senior appearances, notably at Blackpool, Burnley, and Tranmere Rovers, and included two promotions. He began his managerial career with Fleetwood, taking them from National League North to League Two, with playoff success in 2009/10 and a National League title two seasons later. He then led Shrewsbury Town to League One, securing second place with 89 points, courtesy of a strong finish to the season.

After his success with Shrewsbury, Mellon returned to Tranmere, achieving successive promotions to the EFL and League One. Following a stint with Dundee United in Scotland, he returned to Tranmere in 2021.
