Leverstock Green Football Club, nicknamed “The Green,” is a non-league football club based in Leverstock Green, Hertfordshire.
Established in 1970, they currently compete in the Molten SSML Premier Division, which is part of the ninth tier of English football. The team calls Pancake Lane their home ground.
History
Leverstock Green FC, established around 1895, began competing in the West Herts League in the 1908/1909 season. Its ground in Pancake Lane was originally part of the Gorhambury Estate, later managed by the Commission for New Towns after Lord Verulam’s death. The club moved to the Herts County League in 1954, reaching its Premier Division in 1979. Significant developments in the 1970s included a new clubhouse and training lights.
Admitted to the South Midlands League in 1991, Leverstock Green FC faced challenges like the absence of floodlights, impacting promotions. The club achieved steady performances in the Premier Division, with a notable 4th place finish in 2010/11 and successful FA Vase runs. Participation in the FA Cup began in 2004, and the club won the Herts Charity Shield twice. The under-18 team has been competitive, feeding players into higher football levels.
Recent years saw challenges, including the passing of fixture secretary Graham Smart in 2018/19, but also advancements under Emma Smart’s chairmanship. The club started a Development Team in the 2023/24 season and has recognized four individuals for their 50-year service to football, demonstrating a strong community and developmental focus.
