Established in 1970, they currently compete in the Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Central, which is part of the seventh tier of English football. The team calls King's March their home ground.

History

AFC Sudbury, formed in 1999 from the amalgamation of Sudbury Town and Sudbury Wanderers, quickly made its mark in non-league football. Sudbury Town, a founding member of the Suffolk County Football Association, had notable achievements including reaching the FA Cup second round in 1996-97 and being FA Vase finalists in 1989. Sudbury Wanderers also had successes, such as winning the Jewson League Cup in 1999.

In its early years, AFC Sudbury showed strong performances, finishing third in their first season in the Jewson Premier League and winning the league in the following season. The club consistently excelled in the Ridgeons Premier League and made significant appearances in the FA Vase finals under the management of Keith Martin and Gary Harvey.

Through the 2000s and 2010s, AFC Sudbury faced challenges and successes, including a move to the Ryman League and later the Southern League. The club maintained a strong league and cup presence, with managerial changes bringing different strategies and approaches. Under Jamie Godbold’s management, they achieved promotion to the Ryman Premier Division in the 2015-16 season.

Recent years have been a mix of triumphs and challenges, including an impressive FA Cup run and a promotion in the 2021-22 season. Following budget cuts and significant staff and player changes, Marc Abbott took over as the new first-team manager, leading the club into a new phase of adaptation and growth.
