The O's

Oldland Abbotonians Football Club, nicknamed “The O's,” is a non-league football club based in Oldland Common, Bristol.

They currently compete in the Jewson Western League Premier Division, which is part of the ninth tier of English football. The team calls Aitchison Playing Field their home ground.

St. Anne’s (Oldland) began life in 1910 and collected early honours with the GFA Minor Cup in the early 1920s and the Junior Cup later in the same decade, before a quieter period followed between the wars. The club re-emerged as a founder member of the Bristol Premier Combination in the 1960s and stepped up to the Gloucestershire County League in the 1970s, spending over a decade there before reforming under the name Oldland Decora in the mid-1980s.

Abbotonians were established in the late 1940s from Hanham Abbots school and quickly built a record of youth and senior successes, including multiple Gloucestershire FA trophies and church league titles through the 1950s, 60s and 70s. They rose further in the 1980s, drawing on the experience of ex-professionals and strong local talent. The two clubs merged in 1998 to form Oldland Abbotonians, who soon won the Somerset Senior League Division One and were promoted into the Western League in the mid-2000s. Notable links to Bristol Rovers were established over the decades, with several players moving from Oldland and Abbots into the professional ranks.

The merged club went on to further achievements, including victory in the Les Phillips Cup in 2009/10. A rebuild followed in the mid-2010s after a failed promotion bid, though substantial investment in ground improvements was secured during this period. In 2022/23 they reached the play-offs, earning promotion to the Western League Premier Division, though some of their upgraded facilities were later scaled back following planning issues. The club today maintains a strong social presence, with joint chairmen, a director of football, and experienced managers leading the first team, alongside a reserves side in the Bristol Premier Combination and an under-18 squad in the Western Counties Floodlit Youth League.
