Barnstaple Town Football Club, nicknamed “Barum,” is a non-league football club based in Barnstaple, North Devon.
Established in 1904, they currently compete in the Jewson Western League Premier Division, which is part of the ninth tier of English football. The team calls Mill Road their home ground.
The club began as founder members and first champions of the North Devon League, changing to their current name at the end of that opening season. A second title followed in 1908–09, after which they switched to the Devon & Exeter League. Following World War I they returned for 1920–21, then later rejoined the Devon & Exeter League.
After World War II they won the Devon & Exeter League in 1946–47 and, two seasons later, entered Division Two of the Western League. Their first Western League season brought an FA Cup debut, reaching the Preliminary Round before losing to Gloucester City. They won Division Two in 1949–50 under Arthur Coles, then, three seasons later, added the Western League title and Devon Professional Cup.
Another Western League title arrived in 1979–80 under joint managers Brian Hill and Dave Baglow. They stayed in the top division until relegation in 1990–91. Hill returned and, after three seasons, secured promotion by winning the First Division in 1993–94. The club remained at that level until 2013, when relegated to Division One after finishing bottom of the Premier Division.
