Bromsgrove Sporting

History

Bromsgrove Sporting Football Club was established in 2009 by former Bromsgrove Rovers directors and fans amidst financial turmoil faced by the Rovers, adopting a unique constitution to prevent majoritarian ownership. Initially, they could not use the town’s Victoria Ground due to its poor condition and played home games at Studley FC’s Beehive. Their debut in competitive football began in 2010 within the Midland Combination Division Two, eventually earning promotion and winning their first match at the Victoria Ground that November impressively.

The club saw several managerial changes in its early years, with Stewart Brighton and then Keith Draper leading before a series of co-managerial roles emerged, evolving through different leadership until Adrian Mander and Paul Smith took prominent roles. Under Smith, the team achieved notable successes, including second-place league finishes and a victorious league cup run, progressing in national competitions like the FA Cup and FA Vase, and ultimately achieving promotion in the 2016/17 season while going undefeated and gaining record attendances.

By the 2018/19 season, Bromsgrove Sporting had achieved three consecutive promotions, reaching Step 4 in the non-league system, and continued to compete in the Southern League Premier Division Central by the 2019/20 season, which was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite early cup exits and fluctuating league performances in subsequent seasons, the club maintained its position at the Step 3 level, facing challenges with player turnover but still avoiding relegation and demonstrating resilience and community support through its journey.
