Shifnal Town Football Club, nicknamed “The Town,” is a non-league football club based in Shifnal, Shropshire.
Established in 1964, they currently compete in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One West, which is part of the eighth tier of English football. The team calls The Acoustafoam Stadium their home ground.
The side began life in the Wellington & District League during the 1960s, securing back-to-back promotions in 1968 and stepping up to the Shropshire County League. After a winless debut season, the arrival of manager Ken Jones produced the 1971 Division One title and two cup triumphs a year later. Further honours followed with the 1976 Premier Division championship and a Welsh Intermediate Cup final, then election to the West Midlands (Regional) League and consecutive Premier crowns in 1981 and 1982, highlighted by a fourth-qualifying-round FA Cup run.
Rebranded Shifnal Town in 1972 and founded in its modern form in 1964, the club’s momentum stalled when Admirals Park was sold in 1985, forcing a return to county football. Officials purchased land for Phoenix Park, won two County League titles and several cups, and re-entered senior ranks in 1993 via the Midland Combination, becoming Midland Football Alliance founder members a year later once floodlights were installed.
League stability proved elusive in the new century, but Mick Tranter’s 2006-07 side delivered the West Midlands Premier League title by ten points, the League Cup and a 100-goal haul before further managerial changes. Darren Goodall’s squad lifted the League Cup at Walsall in 2008 yet relegation followed in 2010. Ninth place the next year and a cup semi-final preceded a 16th-place finish in 2011-12 and another change of leadership.
