The Vulcans

Avro Football Club, nicknamed “The Vulcans,” is a non-league football club based in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Established in 1936, they currently compete in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One West, which is part of the eighth tier of English football. The team calls Whitebank Stadium their home ground.

Avro Football Club was founded at the Failsworth factory of aircraft manufacturer Avro. The club marked its first significant achievement in 1940 by winning the Manchester County Cup. This early success set the tone for the club’s future endeavors in local football.

The club’s development continued as they joined the Manchester League in 1954, elevating their competitive level. They won the County Cup for the third time in 1956, showcasing their growing dominance. In subsequent years, Avro FC achieved notable successes. They became Division One Champions in 2004, leading to a promotion to the Premier Division. The club continued its impressive performance by winning the league in 2010 and defending their title in the following season.

A major change occurred in 2017 when Avro FC moved to a new stadium in Oldham.

The club’s journey reached new heights with their promotion to the North West Counties League Division 1 North in 2018, following a third Premier League title win. In 2019, they were promoted to the Premier Division and, in 2022, they finished sixth in their first full season in the NWCL Premier Division, overcoming the challenges of the curtailed previous seasons.
