Knaresborough Town Association Football Club, nicknamed “The Boro,” is a non-league football club based in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.
Established in 1902, they currently compete in the Macron NCEFL Premier Division, which is part of the ninth tier of English football. The team calls The Hummel Stadium their home ground.
Formed at the end of the 19th century, the side played in the York & District League before stepping up to the Northern League in 1909. Rising costs led to a return to York and Harrogate football between the wars. After World War II the team resumed in 1946 and alternated between the Harrogate and York leagues into the mid-1960s.
Three Harrogate Premier Division titles from 1965 to 1967 were followed by two runners-up finishes and a move to the West Yorkshire League. Over six seasons the club won Division Two and reached the Premier Division before another stint in the Harrogate League. It remained there until 1993, then rejoined the West Yorkshire League, claiming the League Cup in 1994 and the title in 2009.
After lifting the West Riding County Challenge Cup in 2010, ground upgrades enabled entry to the Northern Counties East League in 2012. Subsequent honours include the League Cup in 2014, the Division One title and an FA Vase second-round appearance in 2017-18, plus an FA Cup run to the second qualifying round in 2018. Ongoing managerial changes and facility work support the first team in the NCEL Premier Division, while reserve and women’s sides compete in county leagues.
