History

Boreham Wood Football Club, formed in 1948, marked its 70th anniversary in 2018 with significant milestones, including a historic victory over Blackpool in the FA Cup and an appearance at Wembley in the National League Play-Offs. The club’s journey through the football pyramid began with gradual progressions through various leagues, leading to its election to the Isthmian Football League in 1974/75. Notable achievements include winning the Isthmian League Division Two Championship in 1976/77 and enjoying success in the Premier Division during the 1990s.

After a relegation in 1999/2000, Boreham Wood immediately bounced back, winning promotion to the Isthmian League Premier Division the following season. The club’s journey in non-league football saw them compete in the Southern Football League and return to the Isthmian League, with a memorable run to the FA Trophy Semi-Finals in 2005/06, the lowest-ranked team ever to reach that stage.

Promotion to the National League came after a successful 2014/15 season, overcoming Whitehawk in the Play-Offs. In the National League, the club faced challenges but secured its position with end-of-season successes, notably under the management of Luke Garrard. The 2017/18 season was particularly notable, featuring the club’s first-ever win against a Football League team in the FA Cup and a Play-Off appearance at Wembley, despite not achieving promotion.

Chairman Danny Hunter’s tenure has seen significant investment in the club, including infrastructure and facility enhancements, such as a new training facility and a DESSO pitch. The club also houses a large sports education programme.
