Horley Town

The club was affiliated to the Surrey County FA in the late nineteenth century and merged with local side Gatwick Rovers in the early twentieth century, retaining its existing name. Both clubs originally played in red and black before adopting claret and blue in the 1910s. After success in local junior competitions during the 1920s, the club progressed to intermediate football. Following the Second World War, it faced the loss of its ground at The Kings Head, but secured a new home when Major A.L.N. Jennings donated land on Smallfield Road. The site was placed in trust for the people of Horley and became known as The Defence.

The club moved between junior, intermediate and senior football during the 1950s, while also establishing its first youth team. Following the expansion of Horley from a village to a town, the club adopted the name Horley Town FC in the 1970s. Its most successful period came during that decade when it won the Surrey Senior League title and Challenge Cup and reached the final of the league’s Charity Cup. The club later competed in the London Spartan League and Athenian League before returning to the Combined Counties League.

Youth football expanded significantly from the 1980s onwards through the development of Horley Town Minors, helping to establish a broad community football structure. In 2003, the club relocated to The New Defence, situated behind the new leisure centre. It remained a regular member of the Combined Counties League, recording a notable FA Vase run to the fourth round in the late 2010s and several strong league finishes. Former player Ashley Nadesan attracted attention after scoring 99 goals across two seasons before moving into the professional game. The club briefly competed in the Southern Combination League before returning to the Combined Counties League, and in 2022 Martin Rapson was appointed first-team manager.
