Cobham

The club developed through local football in Surrey, affiliating with the Surrey FA in the 1890s and playing at a number of grounds around the village before establishing a more permanent home. During the late 1920s it won successive Kingston and District League Division One titles, and in the 1930s gained intermediate and then senior status, winning the Surrey Intermediate League Cup on two occasions. During the Second World War, a temporary merger with Avorians Sports Club allowed football to continue locally.

Cobham Football Club returned to the Recreation Ground after the war before moving to Anvil Lane in the 1950s, a site that inspired the club’s “Hammers” nickname. Former players associated with the club include Phil Walker, Trevor Lee and Bob Willis. The ground became a focal point for local football during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, with a charity match involving the Moody Blues attracting a record attendance of 2,000. Floodlights were installed in the mid-1990s, and the club later won the Combined Counties Premier League Challenge Cup. The ground was renamed in honour of long-serving servant Reg Madgwick following his death.

Since the 2000s, the club has continued to develop its facilities and football structure. Ground improvements, including new seating, fencing and turnstiles, helped achieve a higher grading, while an Under-23 side was introduced to support the first team. The club recorded notable FA Cup and FA Vase runs during the 2020–21 season, installed a £1 million artificial grass pitch in 2023, and won the Combined Counties Premier Cup in 2025 before reaching the play-off final. The club also expanded its junior section and achieved two-star accreditation.
