Buckhurst Hill Football Club, nicknamed “The Stags,”is a non-league football club based in Buckhurst Hill, Essex.
Established in 1985, they currently compete in the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division, which is part of the eighth tier of English football. The team calls Roding Lane their home ground.
Originally established to provide youth football within the local community, the organisation grew from a single team into a large youth setup supported by volunteers and local involvement. Early success came through its junior sides, with further achievements across a range of age groups during the following decades. The youth section expanded to include mini soccer, girls’ teams and multiple age-group squads competing in regional leagues, while also producing players who progressed into professional football and academy systems.
The move into senior football came in the mid-2000s with entry into county-level competition, creating a pathway from youth to adult football. Progress through the Essex Olympian League followed, including promotion to the Premier Division and the introduction of Under-18 and Under-23 teams to support player development. After a brief relegation, the club secured an immediate return to the top division, won Division One, lifted the Essex Premier Cup and later achieved a league and cup double, leading to advancement into Step 6 football.
Further success followed with another Olympian League title and promotion into the Thurlow Nunn League. The club’s first season at that level brought a runners-up finish, promotion to the Essex Senior League and a notable FA Vase run. Continued progress culminated in victory in the Essex Senior League Premier Division play-off final, securing promotion to the Isthmian League North Division. Alongside on-field achievements, extensive ground improvements have included new stands, floodlights, hard standing, turnstiles and other infrastructure developments supported in part by Football Foundation funding.
