The Fighting Cocks

Broadfields United Football Club, nicknamed “The Fighting Cocks,” is a non-league football club based in Harrow, Harrow.

Established in 1993, they currently compete in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Premier Division North, which is part of the ninth tier of English football. The team calls Tithe Farm Sports & Social Club their home ground.

Broadfields United Football Club was originally based at Broadfields Sports and Social Club in Harrow, where it quickly grew, fielding multiple teams in the Southern Olympian League. Early successes included several division titles, and by 1995 the first team had joined the Middlesex County Football League, winning the Presidents Cup in their debut season. Promotion to the Premier Division followed in 1996, and the club continued to expand, running five teams by the early 2000s. However, a devastating fire in 2001 destroyed the clubhouse, posing significant challenges. Despite this setback, the club persevered and remained competitive across various leagues, with Sunday and veterans’ teams achieving cup successes in the following years.

By the mid-2000s, Broadfields United’s Sunday teams found consistent success, winning multiple cup competitions under Chris Webster’s management. The Saturday first team faced challenges but experienced a resurgence under Ryan Duffy in the early 2010s, winning the Alec Smith Premier Cup in consecutive seasons. The club’s breakthrough came in 2014/15 when the first team secured promotion to the Spartan South Midlands League Division One, with a dramatic final-day victory over Cricklewood Wanderers. Around the same time, James Brophy became the first Broadfields player to turn professional, signing with Swindon Town. The following years saw further progress, including a strong debut season in SSML football and an unprecedented quadruple by the Sunday side in 2015/16.

Broadfields United continued to grow, achieving Step 5 status for the first time after a successful 2018/19 campaign. Their FA Cup debut followed, and in 2019/20, they recorded a historic victory over Hampton & Richmond in the Middlesex Senior Cup before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. After a groundshare move to Rayners Lane, the club enjoyed a strong FA Cup run in 2021/22, defeating higher-level opposition before exiting to Hastings United. A challenging 2022/23 season saw managerial changes, but a late resurgence ensured league survival and a Middlesex Senior Charity Cup triumph. Ahead of the 2023/24 season, the club strengthened its squad and coaching staff, hoping to build on its recent success.
