History

Weymouth FC, established in 1890 by three local men inspired during a beach walk, has a rich history rooted in the town of Weymouth, with team colors reflecting the town’s Jubilee Clock. The club enjoyed significant success in the 1960s, clinching the Southern League Championship in consecutive seasons under the management of Frank O’Farrell, who later managed Manchester United. Weymouth FC has a tradition of developing talent, with players like Graham Roberts, Andy Townsend, and Steve Claridge starting their careers at the club before achieving greater success elsewhere.

The 2010s were challenging for Weymouth FC, but the club has since seen a resurgence, gaining back-to-back promotions to the Vanarama National League, largely as a fan-run entity. Despite being a part-time team in a predominantly full-time league, Weymouth has made a solid start to the season and continues to focus on developing young talent. Notable alumni include AFC Bournemouth and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Mark Travers, and forward Brandon Goodship, who moved to Southend United. The club prides itself on nurturing young prospects and competing against more established clubs.

Weymouth FC plays a vital role in the south Dorset community, with initiatives like the introduction of a women’s team and partnerships with charities like Refuge to support domestic abuse victims. The club actively supports local food banks and organizes visits to children’s hospitals, reflecting its commitment to community welfare. Efforts to enhance accessibility at their home ground, coupled with the passionate support from fans known as the #TerrasFamily, underscore the club’s community focus. Fan engagement, both locally and globally, has been pivotal, with fundraising efforts significantly supporting the club’s operational and competitive endeavors.
