Taunton Town Football Club, nicknamed “The Peacocks,” is a non-league football club based in Taunton, Somerset.
Established in 1970, they currently compete in the Vanarama National League South, which is part of the sixth tier of English football. The team calls Wordsworth Drive their home ground.

History
Formed in December 1947, Taunton Town Football Club initially played across various local grounds before settling at Wordsworth Drive in 1953. Joining the Western League that year, the club experienced financial difficulties in the late ’50s and early ’60s, relying on its Supporters Club for survival. A turnaround occurred in 1968/69 under Doug Hillard, leading to their first Western League championship.
The 1970s were pivotal, with Ron Gingell guiding the club to four consecutive runner-up finishes and the installation of floodlights, after purchasing the ground. Despite a brief stint in the Southern League, financial strains led them back to the Western League in 1983. The 1990s brought mixed results, including a FA Vase final in 1994 and triumphs in 1996 and 2003.
Under Leigh Robinson’s leadership, the club entered a successful phase, with multiple Somerset Premier Cup wins and consecutive Southern League playoffs from 2015 to 2017. The 2017-18 season was a highlight, winning the West Division title and advancing to the Southern Premier. In 2021-22, Taunton Town won the Southern Premier South title, achieving promotion to the National League South, and marked their inaugural season with a respectable 14th place finish and a third appearance in the FA Cup First Round Proper.
